ATTENTION
Functional Foundations Speech Therapy is currently functioning as a virtual practice. We will be taking on new patients for evaluations beginning in May of 2026. Currently all feeding therapy sessions will be done virtually, but this may change in the future. Stay tuned!
If you would like to get on the waitlist for a virtual feeding therapy evaluation, or you would like to be notified if we begin to offer in-person evaluations and therapy sessions, please get in contact here. (Additionally, if you would like a recommendation for a feeding specialist who can provide you with in-person services we would be happy to assist you.)
Please know that we keep the best interests of our patients in mind. As such, not everyone is a suitable candidate for virtual therapy. This is meant to bridge the gap for those who would otherwise have limited access to these services. Virtual therapy can certainly prove helpful for a variety of individuals. (You can find some information on this at the bottom of this page.). However, there are also many benefits to in-person therapy with a skilled therapist, particularly for those with more complex medical needs. We can help you to determine what may be the best option for you.
Feeding Therapy
Feeding difficulties can be due to a variety of factors including medical complications, sensory differences, motor deficits, and/or emotional distress. Every child is different and with individualized therapy your child will receive treatment recommendations tailored to their specific needs.
Feeding therapy can be helpful if your child presents with:
-
picky eating/limited diet
-
gagging or choking during mealtime
-
sensory-related food aversions
-
food or liquid spilling out of mouth while eating and/or excessive drooling throughout the day
-
difficulty with breast or bottle feeding
-
difficulty transitioning from breast/bottle to cup drinking
-
oral motor delays which impact chewing and swallowing
Feeding therapy can also be helpful if you are a mother who has experienced:
-
painful breastfeeding
-
a baby who has difficulty latching (or staying latched) at the breast/bottle
-
low milk supply
-
a baby who has excessive gas or is frequently "colicky"
